SUNDAY TRIP - HAINUI - IT. LOWRY- DAYS BAY - Leader. Graham Jacobs. This we think is the queerest trip we have been on. Not that it was HARD - not a. bit - just like the usual Sunday trips when the leader Always knows the way. Like all Sunday trips, then we go crashing on regardless. We debussed cn the top of Weinui Hill, all 12 of us, and found the track branching off a couple of hundred yards from the cutting, beins very easy and well defined until you stop for lunch, Then follows a downward trend, instead of keeping on the top, which would probably be ouite monctonous after all. ANYHOW : we stopped for lunch, and while the vegetable soup syndicate souped, Graham and Eth went exploring for a water hole. Exectly one hour efter, they returned from the lowlands, vitk a billy of mutei, Ba.cause Strett said we would'nt look at a map or compass, the WHOLE day, we spent one hour of jungle training - first class - the Martin tarten was ripped, we scrambled through supple-jack, and crawled over logs; trees were climbed to obtain bearings, the leader all the time being cursed uphill and down dale. His thene song was "Hasn't anyone any suggeaticns?" Course, we had plenty of them! Passing the top of Lowry 1097' for the second tine within an hour, we thought we had better study a mapo The one redeeming feature wes that every tine we did break out into daylight, we saw "Tappy", a majestic peak well capped with snow, and therefore we knew we were still in dellington or thereabouts Eth insisted that we would probably end up in someones back garden, and we did - what a leader! We reached Days Bay, all according to schedule at 4p.m, hed a cuppa and Dennis and Barry slithered into the ocean : Brrh! Julyl. C.C.
