PARKAKARTKI MAUN.AKATUKATUKAFALLS. Two records were broken that day a firstly one for the youngest member a.s yet, aged five. Not that he needed anv training though, teking the shincle slide in his stride and also the very lerge slices of plum cake spread lavishly with raspberry jan by cousin Terry. Secondly Terry balieves that he carried the heeviest Sunday pack to date - more than I Cerried on the Teppy trip! Thich just goes to show! In spite of the sarcastic remerks thrown at Kitty as to who we leading, and whether the leader knev the wey, the little hut was found and so were the falls. The hut is a minute affair, with a fireplace that smokes dreadfully, beceuse the chimney has a top on so we discovered after feeling like snoked cod for some time. ifter lunch we visited the falls ana en roite discovered a smashing spot for a summer weekend of the not too energetic veriety, though the steep shingle slide plus a weekend pack would be quite enough for even the keenest types. The falls themselves, while not spectacular as regards height, have a particular charm in the beauty of their setting deep in heavy bush. hile meking your way up the streem you bagin to doubt whether such a. comparatively small flow cf water could form anything worth calling a waterfell. However, when you do at last arrive the stream seems to have swollen magically and swooshs down its twenty odd foot drop with sound effeuts you would associatevith a much larger job. Back to the hut for a brew and down to the trein. The party was:- Kitty Ncfueen (Leader), Thelme Dodge, Irene Simms, Fay Cornish, ludrey Vautin, Vcl oug, Ethyl Carter, Denis 1lison, Barrie O'Donnell, lar brtin, Terry Hoore end bis two offsiders a eged seven and five respectively named Jlizabeth and David.
