EXCURSION TO TE KAMINARU BAY. larch 5th. It is not usual to write up a Sunday trip, (Mainly because Trip Leaders won't be bothered doing accounts for theno - Ede) but this might be of interest to club menbers as it describes a ner and quick route to this Bay which has been regarded as ra ther a stiff trip for one dayo I found no-one on the 9a.1o bus so decided I would do the trip on my own, I enquired about this route at Bowler's Farm, and was duly given permission to pass through the property. This farm is much nearer the church than the Anderson's property. There is a new cart track vhich follows up a ridge nearly to the top of the hill. One then loaves the road and continues to take the ridge to the top which is a little to the North of White Rock Hill. Once the top of this is reached you look straight down a large gully to the Bayo A good track goes down the ridge, passes over a saddle between Howe and Shepherd's Gully and then goes up and around the side of a hill between these gullies. I made the Bay in 12 hours from Makara. When I got there I found no sign of the weekenders but met 3 gallant types who loaned ne a knife, let me use their fire etco One and a half hours after I got there when I had given up all hope of seeing any Sunday trippers, 3 bodies hove into sighto Lo and behold! The Sunday trippers who had taken a later tran. They had taken the usual route and had come down Shepherd's Gully which didn't inprove matters. Their time was 3 hours, so the route I took nust be much shorter than the one generally knovn in the clubo It was a perfect day but rather too hoto Nevertheless the swinming was nost pleasant. The water was of an amazing clarity and many jelly fish could be seeno Vellington tyres seen out that day were Irene Sinms (Leader), Albert Turney and Pat Hewson. Esther Mary Riggo
