FECENT TRIPS Club trips got off to a slow. start this year, but the excellent wea th er during' Pebruary and March got the crowds out. : Anniversary Weekend- - The Ohau. to-0take Porks trip was led by. Mark Pickering who had 6'members and 7 non-members on the trip. Brian Hunt led. the fit trip with 8 members and 8 non-members. 17.- 18th Feb - WAMC sports. weekend drew a large crowd from our club but we didn't have many running in the marathons as the resul ts showed. However Doris Lampart and Carol Downey won the billy-boiling contest and the girls also. won the tug of war. And I think weall won on the buf et dinner - great value for moneyi- thanks to all the workers! 24'- 26 reb - Trips in the holdsworth area proved very popular this weekend. Peter clark had I2 members I5 non-members on the ascent Holdsworth. Bruce Taylor had 7 menbers and I7 non-members on his Holdsworth Creek trip. Neil Woodrow went down Isabelle Creek and up High. Ridge with 3 members.and 3 non-members. I
while Jack McConchie led 5 members all over the place. 3-5 March: Only 3 members and 7 non-members went up the coast to Whanganui Bay with Paul Aubrey. Rock climbing, or at least knowing the ropes 1s an integral part of competent tramping and mountaineering, but judging by the interest shown, mountaineering activity in the club 1s almost non-existent. Tramping trips in the Kaitawa - Waitewaswae this weekand attracted 25. The East Waitewaewae gorge was finally traversed after three previous abortive attempts, 10-12 March: The Busheraft weekend at Otaki Forks had a total of 25 instructora and pupils. If you want a rofund from this trip, see the notes. 17-19 March: Scott Trustrum lad 18 hods on the Roaring Stag easy trip. Ian Buncks led 10 on the Tawhero trip (5 non-members). Joff Connell led 5 up to Cattle Ridge, and Jack McConchie led Paul Aubrey and 2 Hutt Valleys all over the place (again). The weather wasn't very good tho. Easter: Quite a crowd went South this year. There were 2 medium trips. Glynia Hadfield led one party of 17, and Barry Somebody led another 16 somewhere else. Ian Bunckenberg led 13 on the fit trip up to the St Arnaud Range, Arnst Basin, Hopeless Créek, Sunset Saddle, Angelus, tc, Brian H,nt led a party of 11 from Lewis Pass to St Arnaud in 6 days via Maruia and Matakitaki Rivers, Waiau, East Sabine, Rainbow, Travers - an excollent trip by all accounts. Claire Mahoney led the easy trip with 8 people W people which makes a whopping total of 65. Barry biggs and Paul Aubray Were in the Spensers too, but you'd better ask Paul what they did. And last but not least, the Anatoki addicts ( myself, Tony Gazley, Trevor Bissell and Brian Charles - a new addict) had a return trip to the Anatoki. AT1 we can say is - "What a fantastic area where have all the trampers been all these yoars ?"
