Kaikouras - sometime in August Paul Aubrey, Tony Gazley and myself went down to the Inland Kaikouras to do some climbing. Unfortunately the snow, conditions were hopeless = hopelessly deep and soft, and it took us all our energy to struggle up Tappy. Tony ploughed up to Pinnacle/Tappy saddle where he found himself. a neck deep hole - ah, too much so Tony skied down from here. We rem sorted to all sorts of techniques, such as crawling on the snow
digging out a trench etc. but I still think it's a very nice area. Wy don't you, try it? PAUL RICHARDSON
