This trip was supposed to have been the Rainbow Valley trip, but there are lots of hassles with getting into the Rainbow so it was transferred to the more accessible Branch Valley of Leatham State Forest. Nine went down on the ferry for a three day weekend. During the walk-in up the forestry road the party split up at Silverstream. three going up valley to Top Silverstream and the remainer up. to Greigs Hut, then up Scots Stream, Dismal weather. Next day the splinter party traversed Scotts Knob (7200 ft.) with packs and ended up camping amongst lots of mud and Pinus Contorta near the bushedge on the main ridge between Scots and Silverstream. The main party climbed out of Scots Stream onto the main ridge, but from here only one good keen man - Paul Aubrey reached the top. Cold misty weather. This party reached Silverstream hut that night. We all met up again on Monday morning at the hut, then wandered out to our tranport. There were good views looking back to the peak we had climbed but didr't seeo Quite an impressive peak = it looks like ane eggo Perhaps next time the weather will be better, but even so everyone seemed to enjoy themselves.; and Jan found out about "Kiwi Mountaineering". slinter party 1 Tony Gazley, Paul. Richardson, Jan van Beeman. Main party - Paul Aubrey, Dave Wills, Jeff Connel, Richard Gavey, Nick Miller and Neil Woodrow.
