March 9-11 a
Kathy Hindmarsh, the botanist, 12 other souls and one dog, thoroughly enjoyed a close scrutiny of the flora/ fauna in the Mount Holdsworth area. - : A distinct variation on the old tramping theme, , the botany trippers set off from the Holdsworth Lodge on Saturday morning searching for unknown' species enroute to Mountain House. After lunch, the party climbed abovel the predominately Notholagus Weimannia forest to alpine plants. A wide range of habitat exists above Powell = from. scree, open herb fields, to bog. Although clouds gathered and the mist swirled in, the botanists weren't too: perturbed. A day of exploring behind, them, they returned to Mountain House where they drifted'into dreamland to the gentle pitter patter of rain. The track to the road end was vastly different from the previous day and plenty of fungi had sprouted overnight. The trip leader discovered. a new spécies which has yet to be named. oN Kathy hopes the trip wont be the. last and that longer standing members of the Club will participate next time.
