Rock Climbing AIC June 16

16 June 1979 · Titahi Bay

This text was read by OCR from a scanned newsletter and has not been proofread yet, so expect odd characters and mistakes.

More than a dozen (we lost a few. during the day) took part in a fairly low key day of rock climbing instruction at Titani Bay. A number of routes on the Slab, Pinnacle and Nose areas were safely completed, and past glories and future challenges discussed over burnt A sausages at midday. Although Titahi Bay tends to be a littie BORING, it is still an ideal venue for basic rock instruction as a number of novices can. graphically be shown how to climb and set up belays at close range without fear of falling. Rock climbing tuition is good value, not just for the budding mountaineer but also for the weekend tramper. Balance, rope handling, and even tolerance are as iiportant to the valley tramper as they are to the mountaineer.
