: As the editor was, the trip leader this report, contains only superlatives. Anything less has been edited out. (Edis note: not by met). The weather was incredibie. The company superb. The leadership. brilliant. :3.f. : T Now for the truth. We got" two vans' lost on-the way. One went to: Halcombe, the other Apiti. Eventually weigot to:the roadend. Up tents and to bed. : Next morning a cup.of Prince of Wales, courtesy of Mike. Everyone partook. By 7.30 we werè on our way: 1% hours of easy graded track and we were at. Rangi Hut, We didn't delay as the cloud was coming down. Across the tops in nA à hurry to beat the weather. We found the ridge and the track down through the. leatherwood. One party set off the wrong way and actually argued. By 1.30 we were in Triangle Hut for a late lunch. Sean put his culinary abilities to test, and made a. great chicken and mushroom dish. The more adventurous. pitched flies and retired to the pit. II Next. morning, the trip leader stayed in beds (Ed's note: : she wanted. to stay there tool). By 10.00 the river had gone down and we 'set off tor Iron GatesiHut. It took a long time - some not too fit, I guess.
A late lunch again, pitched tents, Sean at it againgM (Ed's note: the tents and flies were separated by Mike's tennis balls. Overheard one trip member assuring another that these were in-thesame family as tennis elbows). KN Next morning we climbed out of the river up a track on a knife-like ridge - a real razor back. Fortunately there was a track through about half of the leatherwood. In the mist we found the track back to Rangi Hut. Here we met the picnickers complete with wine = in glasses strawberries and cream, etco Down to the vans to be offered birthday cake. : Ed's note (again): Thanks. to everyone on the trip, especially-Mike, even if he did. give me his sore throat.
