: tias. 'Leo Holmes With the guide book giving, a time from (waitewaewae)to, (Waiopehu) Hut-of 12 hours it was with some doubts that I put my name down on this trip. The guide book's description of the bush-bashing involved did little to help my confidence. : on: a F Friday night was an easy stroll in the dark up to (Waiopehu) Hut). An early breakfast saw us away at first light (7.20) and onto (Waiopehu). Dropping of (Waiopehu) we got, into the leatherwood and spent 20 minutes bashing before getting into the beech. However that was the end of the bush-bashing. Most of the way there wereanimal tracks to follow. The undergrowth" that has in the past offered résistance to trampers is now taller and travel under it is relatively easy- : : Werarrived' at'the campsite. about 15 minutes up Prout' Streamat 3.30pm. Next morning we were away' at dawn again. By 10am. we were. on the ridge between the (East Waitewaewae) and Prout. Stream looking across at the main range. To the west Egmont was visable. We reluctantly dropped into the (Panatewaewae) for lunch and down to meet the bus.at the roadend. Bruce Barnes, Andrew Denley, Leo Holmes.
