LALLS WHARE VORKING PARTY. Anniversary_Feckende Work started when we loaded sheets of iron onto the truck roof at Andrews Farm on the Friday night in the rain. Fog slowed Bruce, our driver, up over the Rimutakas. The weather was fair at featherston where we caught up with the Shooting Section on their way to Stony Creek. Leaving Bruce to sleep in the truck the party headed off from the "End of the Road" with most of the gear. About half way to the Hut it just poured down. On arrival sonc bright spark lit a fire inside the hut just to prove that the old chimney didn't work. The party suffered being "Kippers" till the billy boiled. Saturday morning, after breakfast, parties headed off in all directions, one to do a Neill-Wincheombe via Heeves, another went to cône Hut via the Saddle and the working party split up to do many different things, like collecting timber and tin from the truck, collecting firewood, gravel, sand, cement and painting the hut and repairing windows and bunks. Ted Esler arrived early with his good advice and with this the chimney was constructed on the ground. This proved to be a great saving in time and trouble. Saturday evening san the return of the Neill-Winchcombe Party who had somehow turned themselves into a Reeves Track Working Party. While they did a great job there is still plenty to be done on this track by a larger partyo While a fow bods went out eeling the majority went with Bruce to town to return hours later with drinks, ice crean, chocolate and baby rabbit. Those sleeping = out were awakened Sunday morning with raino Little work was done to the outside except on the chimney but the wea ther cleared up in the afternoon and the completed chimney was pulled up and fixed in place. The eelers did catch eels this eveningo Monday turned out a beautiful day. The fireplace was completed with coment and Bruce started painting at 5.30 in the morning, finishing of the roof by the afternoon. With the help of the others the whole outside of the Hut had been re-painted during the weekend despite the wet weather. After dinner Ethyl turned into "Mrs. Mop" and did the hut out a treat. On our way out to the truck we were stopped by Tom Lawton who asked us to wait for Snow Willians, Dave Lowe and Graeme Hall who had cone from Levin via Bennister, Upper and Lower Waingawa Gorges, Totara Flats and Vaiohine Track to view our "Mansion" but who were running a little late. The three day holiday gave us time to make a complete job of the hut which is now as good as any in the Tararuas. Our Club owes a great deal to the help given on many of our Vorking Parties by Ted and the Masterton Clubo I hope that wnen they require a hand from us we shall have a very good nUC ter. The W.T.M.C. now have two good huts and perhans in the future we shall repair and naintain more huts and tracks, thus giving something back to the sport which gives us so much pleasure.
