A VISIT TO RUAPEHU Beth Griffiths When you're 80 plus, but very fit, and for 30 or more years you havel been BRIAN washed, listening to skiing tales, working party tales, and "the mountain" this, that and the other thing, there comes. a time that one should visit and inspect this club hut that kept your son away from home so often. Not to mention all thej pots off tea consumed worrying over subcommittee meetings and wondering ifyou'll ever get to use thej phone again as yet another call comes to chat about Ruapehu. So in November 1989, Alice Hunt was at last introduced to north Ruapehu, skifield Whakapapa and a visit to the "HUT". No the visit did noti include a sleep over but lunch was Alice Hunt, Brian andj friends. (Photo: Beth Griffiths) provided. All facilities were inspected with interest and the particular spot as to "where The track to and from the car park was does my son sleep?". As the hut was empty this negotiated with care and support and certainly day, I'm pleased to reporta tidy bunk !! Alas it was quite a momentous day out for Alice and no chocolate fish in hand for rewards. her sister Lois, who were most impressed by their experience. Fortunately the visit took place on a super spring day with clear skies and great views all So it goes to show, ifyou wait long enough round. opportunities do arise.
