A Unique Solstice Party Grant Newton et may! be an experienced campaigner (a commentator's cliché for "cunning old bastard"), but Harry Smith provedi in international travel that he is merely a novice. While many have tried to put a trick past Harry and failed, he fell for the oldest trick in thel book in 1999, surrendering his passport to another Club member, hence revealing! his birthday. His lack of professionalism was apparently not a one-off incident, as the passport was revealed on three occasions! As surprise birthday dinner shocked, stunned and probably humiliated the WT&MC living legend. A campsite in Chamonix, France was thel location of the Solstice party. oops, Harry's birthday party and some candles tol be blown out. Harryi immediately was in shock, angry that he couldi havel let his defences down SO easily. The WT&MC's greatest secret had been uncovered and was on the Club website for all to see. A Club solstice partywill never be the same again! Harry Smith (21 June 19** - present) ** Harry will kindly provide thel last two digits of the year upon request. Tramping and Mountaineering 1999
