SMITHS CREEK. Oct. 14/16th. According to the Trip Schedule the Club was running a trip to Renata - Hutt Forks but according to the gentlemen who control that section of the Tararuas this was not to be so off went sundry odd bods to Smiths Creek for a lazy weekend, Our leader (one Cereal Jacquard by name) proved quite an exponent of the art of doing nothing, for this weekend anyway, with the result that Saturday was spent mainly in sun-bathing, Swimming and brewing cups of tea. Some bods even managed to get as far as Touwharenikau Hut. Sensation! Lowe David arrived at 4 o'clock and of course all gear was either hidden or stayed within five feet of. Evening brought the usual sing-song and natter with quietness reigning about midnight. In the vicinity of 4 o'clock Dave decided that night was no time for sleeping So after collecting Max these two (Whoops! Almost called them maniacs.) rushed out to the truck, had some more sleep, collected a piece of iron each and came back in. And people say trampers are mado Phil Gardner at least ate a hearty breakfast on Sunday, consisting mainly of food which just happened to be lying around in a pan in front of the fireo The day was spent in much the same way as Saturday until the afternoon when Phil Phillips made the highly amusing discovery +hat he had lost the keys of the truck, This entailed his rather hurried exit from the valley and upon arrival at the road the practising of various ways of starting the truck without a-key. "hese all proved to no avail and eventually a spare key had to be brought from Wellington, the truck finally leaving Andrews about 7p.mo Bill Rice.
