This weekend offered a little of everything and plenty of realism. About 25, includirig instructors, took part in this first snow AIC. working out of our Whakapapa hut, the team spent most of Saturday in the Broken Leg Gully area and on the lower flanks of Pinnacle Ridge. The instructors ran through basics as overcast conditions with. the. .occasional snow shower froze home the points made about conditions in the mountains. One member suffered from exposure and was helped back to the Club hut. Sunday dawned fine 60 most climbed to near the top of Ruapehu. The team returned to the hut for lunch and by late afternoon a regular blizzard was plowing.. Visibility was so bad that a spot-light rigged to a Mow landrover was used to guide the bus down to the Chateau.
